Two of us did an all-day tour with Julian in mid-May. I contacted him via email a week or so before and were happy that he could accommodate us. He picked us up at our dive resort in Bitung (about an hour away) and even stopped at an ATM en route to Tangkoko as we were running low on cash! Julian has a great ear for birds and is very attuned to animals and birds in Tangkoko. On this trip we sighted hornbills, an owl, kingfishers, red-backed thrush. We also spotted a cuscus and saw the tarsiers, but the numerous macaques were perhaps the most fun to observe. One of the nicest parts of the tour was just wandering in the forest among the beautiful big trees, and hearing the sounds of the forest. IN addition to great guding, Julian handled all details superbly, from safely driving us back and forth, to delivering us to a nice lunch spot in Tangkoko, to providing water. In addition to being very knowledgeable about the forest and its birds and animals, he is a great person to spend a day with and is very relaxed and a great resource for learning a little bit about North Sulawesi generally. The bugs weren't too bad on our trip but you want to be armed with insect repellent. It was quite hot so you might want to bring extra water. We did the all-day tour but if you didn't have that much time, the afternoon tour might be better as we saw more wildlife then. Do bring good walking shoes as we walked quite a bit over the course of the day.

We did a day trip from Manado to Tangkoko NP in February 2019. We googled that Julian should be the best guide for Tangkoko NP so we tried to reach him on his Whats up (+62 853-4016-7411) the evening before the trip. He came back to us very quickly and the communication was smooth.
ReplyDeleteJulian managed for us whole trip including transport from/to Manado with great driver (who spoke perfect English and did a great company to us during the way) and perfect lunch in TÅP.
Although we visited NP in low season and during the day (not in the morning/evening which is the best part of the day for visiting) we saw everything what we want - tarsier, kuskus, lots of black maqaues, kingfisher.
In addition of that Julian was a really nice guide and it was pleasure to meet him.

I have been going on world-wide photography tours for the last 20 years, and thus can compare this trip to many others. I rate the quality of this trip and Julian, as a guide, five stars - outstanding. We visited West Papua and several areas in Sulawesi. Throughout the trip Julian demonstrated his superb knowledge of local birds and animals, while always being available, caring, and responsive to our needs and interests. He made every day of this rather complex and often physically demanding trip easy, enjoyable, and filled with great memories, superb animal sightings and photographs. All logistics worked well and were planned professionally. Julian was also very informative and responsive during the planning stage of our trip. I strongly recommend Julian to birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts and anybody else who wants to visit off-the-beaten-track places in the company of an excellent guide.

We had an wonderful experience with Julian for Tangkoko National Park. From picking us up to driving us back to our hotel in Manado, his kindness and knowledge truly made the day trip unforgettable. His knowledge about the park's flora and fauna made the excursion incredibly enriching, and we were fortunate to see a variety of animals and plants. Without a doubt, the tour was worth every penny. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Tangkoko National Park.
ReplyDeleteWe contacted Julian from Europe via WhatsApp, everything was from the start easygoing and he provided us with all Information we needed. He picked us up from Manado and took us to Tangkoko. He has an absolutely insane eye for animal's hiding in the thick forest. On that that day he spotted almost everything Tangkoko has to offer. If you're in this area a Tangkoko visit is a must do, and I would recommend to to book with Julian, he's a local and knowledgeable guide.
